Top Ten PRIDE Shippings

Description

My personal Top Ten gay and lesbian shippings, some canon, some not. Blank meme can be found here.

NOTE: Any stupid homophobic comments will be instantly hidden. If you're not into slash, that's fine, but making hateful comments about how BEING GAY IS WROOOONG is another matter altogether. I get enough of that crap already and I don't need it here.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, here are the pairings.

#1. Ahsoka/Barriss (Star Wars: The Clone Wars). Despite what happened at the end of the show, I still love this pairing to death. There's very little female bonding in Star Wars, so Ahsoka and Barriss's relationship was refreshing in itself. To this day I'm not entirely sure why I started seeing them as a romantic couple, but it was the first non-canon slash pairing I really got into and I never looked back, not even after the show's questionable (at least in Barrissoka shippers' eyes) ending. Oh, and the Barrissoka fanarts? SO MUCH AWESOME.

#2. Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy (Batman: The Animated Series). Have I mentioned that "Harley and Ivy" is one of my favorite episodes of the show? If you ask me, Harley should dump the Joker and run off with Ivy. She may be insane for the Joker's love, but Ivy's the one who actually treats her with respect, not to mention that Harley can feel loose and free with her. I have heard rumors that the show's creators admitted that Harley and Ivy do indeed have a romantic relationship, and God I hope those rumors are true. I swear, you could make a movie about them and you'd hardly even need Batman in it.

#3. Sherlock/John (Sherlock). Sherlock Holmes and John Watson could be called the original slash couple, and even though the modern-day Sherlock show doesn't actually make them a couple, it does wink at the possibility at times. Yes, John got married, but that doesn't change the fact that Sherlock and John need each other. They complete each other. Sherlock needs John to bring out his softer side and John needs Sherlock to bring out his adventurous side. And oh yeah, this is another pairing where the fanarts are simply amazing.

#4. Christina/Lucy (Fatal Hearts). Never heard of Fatal Hearts? Then go to Hanakogames.com and download the demo (and buy the game). Anyway, the protagonist Christina has several possible love interests, but my favorite is Lucy, her best friend who always loves her no matter how dark and scary things get. This was the first game I played that had a same-sex love interest, and I automatically fell in love with Christina and Lucy's relationship. Even in the paths where they don't end up as a couple, you still get the sense that they would do anything for each other, even (literally) face a cult of vampire worshipers.

#5. Mary Sue/Virginia (Magical Diary). So long as you're checking out Fatal Hearts at Hanakogames.com, check out Magical Diary as well. In that game, you create your own character (you can name her whatever you want, but her default name is "Mary Sue," no I'm not making that up) and study at a school of magic (and amazingly this game DOESN'T feel like a Harry Potter rip-off). Anyway, like in Fatal Hearts, your lead character has several possible love interests, but my favorite is with her roommate Virginia. Virginia is easygoing, but she's also prone to getting very emotional. She's not into the traditional definition of romance, but if you make the right choices, you can show her that couples define romance for themselves.

#6. Korra/Asami (The Legend of Korra). I didn't see them as a couple until Season 3, but then I became a believer. Not gonna lie, I found Korra and Mako overplayed and melodramatic, especially when the romantic angst continued into the second season, but one thing the (mostly pointless) love triangle DID do right was Korra and Asami's relationship. Even though they were both after the same guy for a while, they don't see each other as rivals - in fact, they're close friends who don't even think it important that they both used to date Mako. What really made me a believer in this pairing was the end of Season 3, when Asami tells Korra that she's always there for her. I know it probably won't happen, but if Season 4 paired them together I'd be cheering.

#7. Maureen/Joanne (Rent). Hark, a canon couple! Maureen and Joanne are one of those "opposites attract" couples - Maureen is flirty and spontaneous while Joanne is steadfast and responsible, but they still make the perfect match. Even when they break up, we immediately know they're going to be back together soon (and what do you know, they are).

#8. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek). It took me a while to see the appeal in this pairing, but now I love it. Kirk may have a thousand girlfriends, but none of them ever last longer than one episode. Even when he claims he's "in love" with someone, he forgets her quickly, but Spock on the other hand is constant. Spock is always there for Kirk no matter what, and Kirk lets Spock show his emotional side that he usually tries to keep hidden.

#9. Mary Sue/Ellen (Magical Diary). Yup, the game has not one but TWO possible gay pairings. While Virginia is my favorite, Ellen is still awesome. She's shy and studious, but you can show her how to have a little fun (and maybe even break a few rules). The relationship between Mary Sue and Ellen reminds me a little bit of my relationship with my own girlfriend.

#10. Angel/Collins (Rent). Anyone who's seen the show or the movie knows how incredibly heartbreaking this couple is. Gah, they're so so happy at the beginning and then . . . okay, I won't spoil it, but if you've seen Rent you know what I'm talking about.

I've lately become more of a fan of the Ahsoka/Barriss ship myself, though it's actually because of what happened in season five. Barriss as a character actually fascinates me and because we don't know what became of her after The Clone Wars, I think there's a lot of potential for her story. I would be really interested in how a reunion between Ahsoka and Barriss after The Clone Wars would play out.
