#1. Helen Parr/Elastigirl (The Incredibles). Now THIS is a kickass mother. One of the things I love most about her is that she values being a mother as much as she values being a superhero. She chooses to be a stay-at-home mom after her superhero self is forced into early retirement and she's perfectly fine with that because she understands the importance of mothering. Saving the world and raising children - both noble deeds that take a lot of work.

#2. Sarah Hawkins (Treasure Planet). I absolutely love her. She works hard as a single mom, both at running an inn and dealing with her troubled teenage son. She loves Jim, but at the same time she worries about him constantly and wonders what she's going to do with him.

#3. Mel Jones (Coraline). She's probably one of the most realistic mothers in animated movies. She's going through a hell of a lot of stress having recently been in a car accident and dealing with moving and her daughter tends to get on her nerves, but we still never doubt that she loves Coraline dearly.

#4. Kala (Tarzan). How much she loves her human baby! The scene where Tarzan comes out of the treehouse in human clothes - THE FEELS!

#5. Ursa (Avatar: The Last Airbender). She takes such care of Zuko and she'll do anything to protect him, even if it means killing the Fire Lord and getting herself banished. That's some true mother's love there.

#6. Valka (How to Train Your Dragon 2). I've only seen the movie once at the time of posting this, but she made such an impact that I couldn't not put her on the list. She has a secret dragon sanctuary - how cool is that?

#7. Mrs. Brisby (The Secret of NIMH). A very rare animated movie where a mother is actually the protagonist. Mrs. Brisby isn't seeking glory or adventure - she just wants to keep her family safe, which is what brings out her courage.

#8. Chicha (The Emperor's New Groove). Holy shit, a pregnant Disney character! Yes, I know Darling was pregnant in Lady and the Tramp, but they never really showed her pregnancy. Here, Chicha's got the big pregnant belly and isn't ashamed of it. Not to mention that she stays calm even when her kids are going crazy, though she is still prone to the occasional fit of anger.

#9. Ma Meerkat (The Lion King 1 1/2). I love how she's chubby. In addition, she loves Timon enough to let him leave the colony, though she still worries about his well-being.

#10. Mrs. Arbuckle (Garfield). There's definitely a nostalgia factor here, since I grew up watching the Garfield Christmas special every year, but she's so sweet. Jon and Doc Boy are still her little boys no matter how old they get, and she can really cook.
